“I went from sleeping on an air mattress to becoming a global threat to some of the biggest beverage companies on the planet.”
Those words, spoken by Jack Owoc in Turning Point USA’s “Only in America” series hosted by Charlie Kirk, capture the essence of a journey that could only happen in America. This is that story—featuring Jack and his wife Meg Liz Owoc, produced by Benny Johnson, and filmed at the Bang Energy Mansion.
Jack Owoc was born in Sylvania, Ohio, a small Midwestern town. After college, he became a science teacher like his mother, earning just $1,900 per month.
“At the end of the month, they would pay one time monthly. It’s kind of rough. I knew that I was barely surviving,” Jack recalls.
Meg Liz Owoc grew up in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, outside Pittsburgh. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a degree in Graphic Design and was captain of her dance team. “I love dancing, it was definitely one of my major passions in my life,” she shares.
With just $2,000 borrowed from his father, Jack rented a 700-square-foot space—350 square feet for the store, and he lived in the back. “We had so little money that I told my dad, ‘Only make the shelves one deep because we can only fit one product to make the store look full,'” Jack remembers.
Within two weeks, he took in $700 in a single day. The business experienced 17 years of uninterrupted growth, eventually becoming VPX and launching Bang Energy in 2012.
Jack and Meg met through an unexpected connection. Meg was a professional cheerleader for the Miami Marlins and Florida Panthers while doing a radio show sponsored by Jack’s company. “My co-host encouraged me to tag Jack in my videos on Facebook,” Meg explains. “He wrote back and said, ‘We should hang out, we should go on a date.’ The next two weeks we were completely inseparable.”
Their connection went deeper than business. “Him and I both are very Christian and we love God, and we both knew that there was a very clear path for our life and we knew we were meant to do great things for the Lord here on Earth,” Meg shares.
Jack saw Meg’s potential beyond cheerleading. “I said, ‘Your cheerleading days are over. Now you’re going behind the scenes and you’re going to teach all these young ladies how to be like cheerleaders, but they will be the marketing front of our company.'”
This decision revolutionized Bang Energy’s marketing. Meg built a network of over 1,000 influencer partnerships, pioneering the creator economy approach years before it became standard in the beverage industry.
Under Jack’s leadership as CEO and Chief Scientific Officer, Bang Energy grew into a top-3 global energy drink brand with over $7.25 billion in lifetime retail sales. The company employed over 1,000 people and operated state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities.
“This is why America’s so great—the ability in America to literally have nothing and earn $100,000 a year can easily be achieved,” Jack emphasizes. “America’s a place where you can become a multi-millionaire, even a multi-billionaire. America’s still the greatest nation on planet Earth.”
According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, small businesses employ nearly half of America’s private-sector workforce, demonstrating the real impact of entrepreneurship beyond individual success.
For Jack and Meg, their children represent their greatest achievement. “I would say my prize possessions of living in this country are my children,” Meg shares. “I love the idea that my children can experience the entrepreneurship that my husband and I have experienced. I love the freedom to talk to them about Christianity. I have the freedom to send them to a Christian school, and I’m just so excited to see what they are going to become in this country because the possibilities are truly endless.”
“If you create something that’s positive, exudes love and energy, and you’re out there helping people and you just create a product that makes people feel good, people will want to work with you,” Jack explains. “That’s what Bang Energy is. It’s just a product that makes you feel good. In this day and age, people are looking for something that makes them happy.”
This authentic approach resonated with consumers. Research from Nielsen shows that 81% of global consumers believe companies should help improve society—and authenticity matters.
Being selected for Turning Point USA’s “Only in America” series was a proud moment for the Owoc family. “What we loved most about this project was Charlie’s unwavering passion for America,” they reflected. “His mission was to highlight the real American Dream—the belief that with faith, hard work, and relentless determination, anything is possible.”
The feature introduced them to Benny Johnson, who produced the segment, and Stacy Sheridan, now Senior Director of Development at TPUSA.
The journey hasn’t been without trials. After Bang Energy’s bankruptcy and acquisition by Monster Beverage in 2023, Jack and Meg faced their greatest test. Yet they haven’t abandoned their belief in the American Dream.
Today, they’re building Ai Energy Drink, applying three decades of scientific expertise to create what they believe represents the future of functional beverages. The launch represents not retreat but reinvention—the willingness to start again with experience and determination.
Jack Owoc’s story—from sleeping on an air mattress in a 700-square-foot store to building a billion-dollar brand—embodies the American Dream. His partnership with Meg, rooted in faith and shared purpose, demonstrates what’s possible when talent meets opportunity and determination meets resilience.
“Our Only in America moment is the fact that we can support the American Dream by hiring and having over a thousand people on the payroll,” Jack states in the feature. “We have so many people on the payroll and we’re doing so well because America’s doing so well. This could never be achieved anywhere else.”
As they build their next chapter with Ai Energy, the Owoc family continues to prove that in America, your starting point doesn’t determine your destination—your faith, work ethic, and refusal to quit do.
Only in America, indeed.
